2018 AGM: Thursday 29 November

Posted by Seb Duggan on

The Hambledon CC 2018 AGM takes place on Thursday 29 November at 7.30pm, at Hambledon village hall.

Please could all club members make every effort to attend.

There are various club officers to be elected/confirmed:

Tony Smith is stepping down from Treasurer after 10 years - many thanks to him for all the hard work he's put in over that period. Imogen Restell has volunteered to take over.

Thanks also to Zoe Mackenzie, who is passing on the baton of Membership Secretary to Liz Moger.

And Theresa Pratt will be taking over the position of Colts Manager from Liz.

All three senior team captains are up for election. Currently we have Spencer Le-Clercq standing for 1st XI captain, and Kevin Wingham for the 3rds. As usual, we have no-one putting their head over the parapet for the 2nd XI. Any nominations should be submitted to Seb or to Lecky before the AGM; we require a proposer and a seconder.

Fantasy League 2018 winner!

Posted by Seb Duggan on

The league season has now come to an end, and with it the Fantasy League.

This year’s winner, for the second time in three years, is Kevin Wingham – congratulations to Kevin, who will receive the trophy and the £75 first prize.

The second place prize of £50 goes to Steve Ripiner, who overtook Phil and Amanda Harding in the last week of the season, pushing them back into third place (£25).

Thanks to everyone who entered – and to those who haven't yet paid me their entry fee, I will be chasing it up!

Full final standings can be seen here.

Bob Beagley, 1930–2018

Bob Beagley, long-time stalwart of Hambledon Cricket Club, passed away at the end of May aged 88.

Bob’s association with the club went back to 1945, when he debuted as a 15-year-old; he later served as Chairman from 1981 to 1993 — the club’s glory years!

I’m sure everyone at the club will join in offering condolences and best wishes to Bob’s family and friends.

The funeral will take place on Friday 15 June in St Peter & St Paul Church, Hambledon, at 2pm.

Family flowers only please; donations are being received for the Alzheimer’s Society. Donations may be made by sending a cheque made payable to the charity to: South Downs Funeral Service, The Old Post Office House, Hambledon Road, Denmead PO7 6NN.

Fantasy League Week 1

Posted by Seb Duggan on

Not the best of starts to the league season, with all 3 teams losing – and the 1sts and 2nds each by only a few runs – but the Fantasy League is off to a flyer!

Top team after the first week is Gaby & Henry, with Marc Turner in a very respectable second place.

In the player rankings, Rory Morris takes an early lead, with usual suspects Lecky and Turns not far behind.

The 2018 Fantasy Cricket competition is now live!

Posted by Seb Duggan on

Good news, everyone: the Fantasy Cricket competition is up and running for 2018!

Lecky will be wanting to defend his title from last season - let’s have as many challengers as possible! It’s £5 per team, but you can enter more than one team if you like; and there are prizes of £75, £50 and £25 for the top 3 teams.

One small change to the rules this year: you now need to select a minimum of 3 batsmen, 3 bowlers, 2 all-rounders and 1 wicket keeper - but the final 2 players are up to you...

Please get your entries in to Seb by 12 noon on Saturday 5 May, if you want them to be counted for the first league match.

Ground Force: Sunday 8th April

Posted by Seb Duggan on

This year’s Ground Force working party will be this Sunday 8 April, starting at 10am, when we’ll be getting Ridge Meadow ready for the imminent (weather permitting) start of the season.

The more volunteers we can get helping, the quicker it will all be done, but it shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours at most.

Please come and lend a hand if you can!
