(Nearly) end-of-season league standings

Posted by Seb Duggan on

With the league season wrapping up (still one game to play for the 1st XI), the 2nds have secured a comfortable mid-table position after a late rally in performance, seeing them win 4 of their last 5 fixtures.

The 3rd XI, however, have not been so fortunate. Agonisingly tied on points with US Portsmouth, a lower number of wins leaves them facing relegation to Regional Division 2 South.

As for the 1st XI, it’s still all to play for, with promotion very much a possibility. The Dons will need a near-maximum point win over Paultons on Saturday, and hope that Tichborne Park lose to Trojans. If Hambledon outscore Tichborne by 15 points or more, we will move to second in the league. So, if you’re not playing on Saturday, come along and support your Dons!

Colts seeking managers and coaches

Posted by Seb Duggan on

With the end of one season we now start the planning of the next.

We need as many volunteers as we can to make the colts section work. In particular we are seeking:

  • managers or assistant managers (to organise teams and games, no cricket playing experience required, just a good organiser). Specifically for the Under 9s
  • coaches (to organise training and coach players)
  • coaching assistants

If you or someone you know might be interested please let Steve Toogood know.

Plus Hampshire have just announced their winter coaching courses - click here for details. Again if interested please Steve know. Hambledon CC will pay the fees for the courses.

There are 3 courses:

  • Coach Support Worker - suitable for younger volunteers
  • Coaching Children (up to 13 years old) - more comprehensive
  • Coaching Young People (over 13 years old) - more comprehensive

There is also a ‘Young Coaches’ course planned, but no details yet. This is for 14 to 16 year olds. Again please let Steve know.

If you have any feedback on this season please let us know so we can improve next season’s experience.

Fantasy League: Week 16

Posted by Seb Duggan on

Only two weeks to go now, and things are hotting up at the top of the fantasy league table. In gold medal position is Kevin Wingham, who has extended his lead over second-placed George Harding to 26 points, so might take some catching. But silver and bronze are both very much up for grabs, with only 12 points separating the next six teams...

Top team of the week was Prad’s, scoring 49 points; and MVP this week was Indy Chakrabarti with 9 points, but Shane maintains his clear lead in the players’ rankings.

2nd XI hit a late run of form!

Posted by Seb Duggan on

With spirits high after last week's victory over Portsmouth, and with the unexpected luxury of naming an unchanged team, the 2nd XI on Saturday played host to Calmore Sports II at Ridge Meadow – and turned in a second consecutive (but this time tighter) win, moving themselves further from the bottom of the league and leaving them confident of avoiding relegation.

Fantasy League: Week 14

Posted by Seb Duggan on

After edging into first place in the Fantasy League last week by a single point, Kevin Wingham this week extended his lead to 12 points from second-placed Rhidian Chapman - and with just four weeks left in the season, the competition is hotting up! It may be time for a tactical transfer if you still have either of your two transfers in hand - simply let Prad or Seb know before midnight on Friday. Bear in mind, though, that the last week only has a 1st XI fixture, so it may be worth holding back to load your final week team with 1st XI players...

James Restell had the top-scoring team this week, amassing an impressive 43 points; MVP for the week was Seb Duggan with 14 points.
