Hambledon under-13s got back to winning ways in the South East Hants Indoor League with a comprehensive six-wicket win over Portsmouth Community.

Batting first, the young Portsmouth outfit made 71 for two in their 12 overs - a total boosted by 42 extras.

Finlay Rockett was the pick of the bowlers with one for eight in his three overs.

Harry Hoolahan bowled tightly but it was Tom Toogood who picked up the other wicket.

The target was never going to be difficult for the Dons and they successfully recorded maximum batting points by getting home without losing a wicket.

Louis Matovu impressed with an unbeaten 20, while Will Hardman reached 14 not out.

Hambledon are now third in the table behind leaders Havant and Fareham & Crofton.

Hambledon face fight for survival

Hambledon are facing a battle to avoid relegation from South East Hants Indoor League division one.

The Dons slumped to a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Portsmouth & Southsea on Sunday as fears for their safety heightened.

Only skipper Dan Hewitt got in with the bat, hitting an unbeaten 33 as Hambledon posted a well under-par 98 for four in their 12 overs.

They then failed to land a blow in the field as Portsmouth & Southsea coasted home with eight balls to spare.

Hambledon are 12 points above the drop zone but Purbrook A have a game in hand.

The Dons' run-in includes clashes with title-chasing Havant A, Fareham & Crofton and fellow strugglers Bedhampton A.

Hambledon under-16s extended their unbeaten winter run to 11 matches with victory over Petersfield at Fareham Leisure Centre.

The young Dons posted 115 in 12 overs before shooting out their near neighbours for just 68 to complete a 47-run triumph in the South East Hants Indoor League.

Rory Prentice produced a superb all-round display, top scoring with 23 before grabbing two for eight with the ball.

Spencer Le-Clercq struck 22, while Hew Richards (one for six) and George Harding (one for 28) enjoyed success with the ball.

But the highlight of the evening belonged to Tom Gwyther who took a brilliant diving catch as Hambledon's title charge powered on.

Tough lesson for Under 13s

Hambledon under-13s suffered a heavy five-wicket defeat at the hands of a talented Portsmouth & Southsea outfit in the South East Hants Indoor League.

Electing to bat first, the Dons were soon in trouble with Will Hardman run out for four.

Louis Matovu (17) and Tom Toogood (eight) steadied the ship but failed to make the best of scoring opportunities.

Finlay Rockett chipped in with 10 not out at the end but the total of 79 for four never looked enough.

And so it proved as Portsmouth & Southsea reached the target in less then eight overs, with Rockett being the pick of the bowlers as he returned one for 17.

After the five-wicket triumph, the city side now top the league table while the young Dons remain in fourth spot.

Next up for the under-13s is a clash with Portsmouth Community on Sunday, January 29.

Lavous boosts survival bid

Jack Lavous struck an unbeaten 25 as Hambledon snatched a narrow triumph over Portchester A in South East Hants Indoor League division one last night.

The Dons ran out three-run winners after posting 89 for three - and in the process leapt out of the relegation zone.

Hambledon were put in by Portchester and Lavous anchored the innings, while useful contributions from Rhidian Chapman and Nick Scutt boosted the total late on.

After the break, tight bowling restricted Portchester to just 28 for one in the opening five overs of their reply.

And with the pressure now firmly on their opposition, the Dons kept it tight to leave Portchester three runs short on 86 for four.

Skipper Dan Hewitt said: 'Jack showed he doesn't crumble on the cricket pitch like he does on a golf course.

'We knew we needed to bowl well and not concede a shed load of extras.

'And when we sniffed a chance, like lions on the savannah, the lads went in for the kill.

'It was great to start 2012 with an emphatic win.'

Lewis and Brown fire young Dons

Hambledon under-16s crushed Sarisbury to strengthen their claims for the South East Hants Indoor League crown.

Eddie Lewis and Joseph Brown spearheaded the charge at Fareham Leisure Centre on Sunday.

The opening batsmen both notched 26 not out to get Hambledon off to the best possible start with the bat.

Jack Dyer (16), Tom Gwyther (16) and Rory Prentice (10) all chipped in as the young Dons posted 140 for four from their 12 overs.

George Harding then starred with the ball, taking two for 23 to restrict the Sarisbury reply.

And with Prentice and Gwyther also bagging a wicket apiece - and Lewis two stumpings - Hambledon ran out 35-run winners.

The under-16s are now eight points clear at the top of the table and boast the only 100-per-cent record after five fixtures.
